Highlands Ranch Community Association's Backcountry Wilderness Area Fund receives $5000 sponsorship from the Douglas County Health Department for youth programming. (OFFICIAL RELEASE)
HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. — Monday, August 12, 2024 — The Backcountry Wilderness Area Fund is thrilled to announce a generous $5,000 sponsorship from the Douglas County Health Department. This funding will directly support and expand the Highlands Ranch Community Association Backcountry Wilderness Area's youth nature programs, offered at low- or no cost to the community. These programs include free initiatives like Sunshine & Storytime (ages 0-6) and low-cost programs such as Discovery Days (ages 7-14). You can connect with the Douglas County Health Department when they are on-site at Sunshine & Storytime on the first Wednesday of the month.
Offering these funded programs helps to eliminate financial barriers to nature education, ensuring our community’s youth have access to nature and its myriad positive impacts on whole child health. We are excited to partner with the Douglas County Health Department to continue promoting physical and mental well-being, starting with our youngest residents.“Each dollar from this generous partnership equals more nature-filled opportunities for the young people in our community,” says Lindsey McKissick, principal officer of the Backcountry Wilderness Area Fund. “We get the chance to encourage a healthy life spent in the outdoors and promote the importance of nature through engaging and accessible adventures.”
Douglas County is routinely listed at or near the top of the nation's healthiest counties. The Douglas County Health Department has prioritized promoting social-emotional well-being in Douglas County by ensuring children, youth, and families have the resources and support needed to build individual and community resilience.
