About Us

The HRCA Backcountry Wilderness Area is a 13-square-mile wildlife habitat conservation area in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. Owned and operated by the Highlands Ranch Community Association (HRCA), the 8,200-acre property is home to a healthy ecosystem for local wildlife as well as the Backcountry Outdoor Center (Base Camp, Horse Corrals, and Archery Range) and more than 26 miles of natural surface trails for outdoor recreation. More than 150,000 people visit our trails or engage in our programs annually including 1,000 kids who come to Camp Backcountry each summer.

The Backcountry Conservation & Education Fund, a 501c3 nonprofit, provides additional support to the Backcountry Wilderness Area through its mission to improve wildlife habitat, inspire the next generation of nature stewards, and ignite a lifelong love of the outdoors for all.
